Hey Rosana. Somehow I missed this post.... Very enjoyable read. I would like to point you to two beautifully written, well-researched books that will blow your mind: "An Immense World" by Ed Yong, which is about animal senses and perception, and "The Light Eaters" by Zoe Schlanger, which is about the emerging botanical science/understanding of "plant intelligence." #MoreThanHuman
Hi, Tom, and thanks! Hope all's well with you! I did kind of read An Immense World — I say kind of because I listened to it and was distracted. I need to check it out again. I didn't know about The Light Eaters, will check it out. Currently reading Animals in Translation by Temple Grandin.
Love the rat driving a little car. We have so many rats in our yard that I’d like to teach them how to drive a bus, and have all of them climb aboard and drive away, far away.
I'd wager that if animals could communicate through an AI-enabled translator, one of the first questions they would ask might be, "Why do you wear clothes?" And if it were a cat, they might continue to ask what good consciousness is, since it would seem to them that we use it to confuse ourselves.
Thanks so much, Anne! I had my doubts about this one, so I'm all the more glad to hear that you enjoyed it. I mean, what's not to love about rats driving cars, right?

You know what they say: If cats could talk, they wouldn't. :-)
I love that Frans de Waal has such a great sense of humor!

Lord knows what a cat would say! They'll likely be the hardest animals to translate.
I loved this post! What a great way to start the day!
