Things are getting very out of hand. I’ve been saying for years, at this point, it’s like watching a slow motion train wreck. We saw a musical in NYC at the end of October by Barry Manilow called “Harmony” about an incredibly successful 1930’s musical comedy troupe of young men in Germany who basically were erased from history by the Nazis because some members were Jewish. It’s presented as a memory play. The main character, after a scene in which the group, after playing Carnegie Hall in December 1933, ultimately decides not to accept an invitation to stay in the United States, looks out at the audience and says something like “What seems so obvious to us now, was not so very obvious to us then”. It feels like we are at that moment again, now. There’s a sense of inertia and denial about the growing militaristic far-right mostly-white white supremists. And I don’t know what to do…the Rachel Maddows of the world have been trying so hard. The “left” have their own blinders on. Take a look at a book called “The Undertow” by Jeff Sharlett and try not to despair!
Pretty shocking. I expect this kind of crap on X but not on Substack. Time to write letters . . .
