Always interesting with something to learn! The "modern" idea that women aren’t interested in sex is countered by the idea that women are at fault when they are sexually assaulted because they've lured men in. I kinda think that the "sex crazed" accusation was more of the same -- men blaming women throughout history for their own lack of control. But I'm no historian, so you never know!

Yes, that sounds about right! Apparently medieval people thought a woman could only get pregnant if she had an orgasm, so if a woman was raped and got pregnant they assumed she must have enjoyed it. The blaming of women is a long thread in our history, sadly.

Catching up on Flower Child posts. Reading this post reminded me of a stat I heard this week: In the US, there are more CEOs named John than there are CEOs who are women.

Very nice article. One suggestion to round out your Women's History Month foray, watch this early 1990s documentary, The Burning Times, about the European witch craze. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=34ow_kNnoro

There's also a terrific book on the subject, Caliban and the Witch, by Sylvia Federici. Provides the full political-economic-social picture the elements of which are still very active today.

Thanks, and I always love your reading recommendations! When I worked at HarperCollins (in the 1990s), I worked on the book Witchcraze: https://www.harpercollins.com/products/witchcraze-anne-l-barstow?variant=32207210512418
